Chain letters often claim the tale they want passed on was broadcast "only yesterday on CNN" or "a few days back on NBC/CBS" or some other popular TV station, or that the FCC or any other big corporation wants something done, and for it to get done, the chain letter must be sent all over the net to everyone possible.
Even Snopes, the most widely known hoax-busting site is used by cunning hoaxters to spread completely bogus stuff around.
