The Blogosphere

It's that part of the internet which belongs to bloggers, who are supposed to be those keeping an online journal or diary, places to put down their own thoughts, or chronicle events taking place in their lives and/or of interest to them.

But even the blogosphere is filled with chain letters because people are actually posting yet more copies of this junk to their blogs. Memes are especially common and may take the form of "surveys" or "sharing" stuff whether it be web links, recipes, whatever, where you have to fill out answers, list names, or something else according to the particular rules of the chain letter, and "tag" your friends. They also take things to a new level of obnoxious ego-puffing annoyance in the form of so-called "awards." Yes, call it an award, suggest some ego-swelling ideas, instruct people to pass it along to (tag) their friends, and they fall for yet another chain letter. Many even admit to suspecting or knowing it is a chain letter, but they continue to do it anyway.,

This page showcases blogs and entries where people willingly if unwittingly nixed the value of their own bit of cyberspace by posting chain letters to their blogs, with or without tagging/forwarding them on to other people. Even if some are reluctant to do the tagging thing because it feels too much like a chain letter, but they still fill out everything else and put it on their blog without further complaint of how ridiculous the whole thing is, that's basically like sending a good luck forward via email with a little disclaimer at the top saying that you don't usually do these things. Yeah, right.

Some of these have background music, and this is astounding. It's a real mystery how people can have enough creativity and understanding of technology to put music on their pages, yet they still post chain letters.

Starting with a stale joke list that just won't die. This crazy chain letter has been spreading its insanity like crazy first through email, then web forums, and now social networks and blogs. sightings of this unfunny loony list are so frequent that it deserves its own section. Cultural humor chains can be annoying if you get the same ones too many times, but they can be interesting as well if they are about a culture you know little about and you just don't get much in the way of forwards about it.
